American Airlines Reviews

AA is loosing the battle. Id rather fly Virgin. Seats are old on 777's. Movies are garbage and the service is typical AA snide "Im hating my job" service.

Our flight was delayed 4 hours, overcrowded, aisles to narrow, no leg room. Staff are just getting through the day, sandwich offered at 5 dollars was not fit rat food ,movie scheduled to be shown was not shown as product supplied did not fit their equipment, what ever happened to good service? Our last flight with American airlines from europe Oct.2005 was even worse taking 23 hours. We are putting off any other flights for at least a year as the airlines cattle care mentality and lack of service is just to much to put up with.........
Chris Lalor Flew From: Brussels To: Columbus in October/2006 in Economy Class
I flew BRU-ORD-CMH outbound and the same return. Before arriving at Brussels airport I checked on the American Airlines website about hand luggage, what was allowed and forbidden. According to their own information AA says that at Brussels airport 1 piece of hand luggage and 1 personal item is allowed (it says what that personal item may be, that includes a laptop) so I pack my books, tickets, medication, spare socks etc into a small Sabena bag and my trusty laptop in it’s own carrying case. Upon checking in the AA rep said that only 1 piece allowed, when I protested I was told “Yes we know about this and what our website says, but it’s Brussels airport that makes the rules” So it necessitated putting my laptop into my suitcase and checking it in, if I had known this I would have used a bigger carry-on bag. I got seat 21G on a Boeing 767-300ER, great planes, but getting a bit long in the tooth now, certainly due for replacement some time soon. The 3 bulkhead seats in front of me were occupied by a French/Tunisian grandmother and her 3 and 7 year old grandsons, none of them spoke English or had really any idea of what was going on, I suspect their 1st time on an aeroplane. The only French speaking member of the cabin staff was working in the business section and didn’t make any visits to see how they were getting on nor did the main cabin staff ask him to come down and assist, a fellow passenger and myself had to help her. Take-off was on time, the meals were hot, tasty and well presented, disappointing that any alcohol had to be purchased, I was told for economical reasons, one wonders how other airlines manage to this. The connecting flight was on an Embraer 145, a very small regional jet but for only 50 minutes it’s not too uncomfortable. For the return flight the Columbus check-in was efficient I was allowed to take 3 items as hand luggage. CMH is a modern airport with all the bells and whistles with plenty of seating and facilities. The flight from CMH to ORD was on a Canadair regional jet, on time and roomier than the Embraer. The main flight to Brussels was delayed for an hour for some repair work. I got 21G again which is a good seat however the passenger in front of me had her seat reclined the whole flight and pushed her feet against the bulkhead making the seat recline even further, not funny when your 6ft 3 tall as I am. What I find about US & some European airlines is that they follow the set pattern that after take-off they serve drinks, then the main meal, then drinks again, then back to clean up, all in about 1 hours, then that’s it, goodbye see you when we land. If you want an extra cup of coffee, water or heaven forbid a cookie then you need to hunt the cabin crew down and be prepared for that “what do you want” scowl. Surely it could be better organized that every 10 or 15 minutes one of them could wander up and down the isles checking if all is OK and yes an earth-shattering “can I get you anything else?”. All in all an efficient set up however in today’s competitive environment AA will need to differentiate themselves if they are stay profitable, the overall impression was “give just the minimum necessary” and with no European operator flying out of Brussels to compete with (and Sabena was hardly competition was it?) I suspect travelers will have to accept this level of service for the foreseeable future. Good ? not really, Bad ? no not that either, as the lady in the ad said “Where’s the beef?”

I was on A American Airline flight 11 on 9-11-01 and the service was good. Mohamed Atta al Sayed was a very nice man He let me hold his bomb it was cool. At 8:46:40 a.m we crashed into the northern facade of the North Tower It was fun.
Jetboy Flew From: San Diego To: JFK in November/2007 in First Class
The flight from SAN to JFK was fairly good. FA's pleasant, food good. The 757, however, looked old and dirty. The return flight from JFK to SAN was poor. The check-in was conducted by the grumpiest, nastiest S.O.B. I've encountered in quite some time. On board, the FA's were indifferent and incompetent and the food was poor. After drinks and dinner service, the FA's spent the remaining 4 hours hanging out in the galley and ignoring the rest of us. American Airlines are like most US carriers these days: mediocre at best. I wish these old dinosaur airlines would die off and some new, fresh ones would come in to take their places!
